Task at Hand
David Chipperfield Architects — winner of more than 100 international awards including the RIBA Stirling Prize and the Mies van der Rohe Award — required refurbishment of its offices at 180 The Strand. Originally designed by Sir Frederick Gibberd in 1971–76, the building has been reimagined as a creative hub featuring exhibition spaces, offices, restaurants, bars, and a rooftop pool.
The client was aiming for a polished concrete floor; however, due to the building’s construction this was not possible. As an alternative, flooring contractor Maslens recommended KingFloor C500 Pigmented as a concrete overlay covering more than 3,000 m².

An industrial-grade, coloured, self-smoothing floor topping for upgrading and renovating new and existing internal floors — installed as a 10 mm coating over the existing substrate, achieving a look similar to polished concrete.
A clear matte polyurethane sealer designed to protect and seal the screed and concrete surfaces.
The overlay provides a flat, smooth floor able to take incredibly high levels of traffic and wear in a commercial environment — an aesthetic, hygienic, and durable floor that is significantly more cost-effective and time-beneficial than polished concrete. KingFloor C500 also carries the EMICODE label, certifying it as a low-emission, sustainable flooring solution.
