Task at Hand
The project involves construction of sewage treatment facilities to increase Riyadh’s wastewater purification capacity — a waste treatment facility, storage tanks, sorting and collection units, cooling unit, related infrastructure, and sewer pipelines.
A main requirement was an economical waterproofing and protective coating for the wastewater tanks that could be easily spray-applied with excellent adhesion to the existing PU foam thermal insulation, plus UV resistance and excellent protection against carbon dioxide, chloride ions, and water.
KingKrete Solution
A flexible, acrylic cement-modified waterproofing and protective coating, approved by the consultant with long-term performance and reliability in mind. Due to the project’s size, the product was sprayed over the PU foam covering the tanks’ external surface — with R&D-centre tests conducted beforehand to confirm suitability.
After curing, an on-site verification pull-off test confirmed adhesion over the PU foam — a cohesive failure occurred within the foam itself, demonstrating excellent bond. The coating now protects tanks expected to treat 200,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day.
